The people working here originate from all around the world and have a great diversity in background. Combined with the variety of our products and the medical conditions we treat, this environment continues to fascinate me.
Medtronic is the place to be for an engineer with a strong interest in medicine. In April 2009, I started working here as a biostatistician, and I quickly realized this was a unique possibility to apply my mathematical skills and my engineering knowledge within the leading company in medical devices. In my job, I work together with researchers and doctors to translate my statistical expertise into clinical practice. So far it has been a wonderful experience: so many projects to work on, so much to learn… and I get to have a real impact on people's lives!
What still strikes me most is the heterogeneity of the people working here, from all around the world with the most different backgrounds. Adding this to the variety of our products and the medical conditions we treat, this environment continues to fascinate me.
Last month, there was an article in the Italian press on the introduction of our insulin pumps with glucose monitoring in the hospitals. I emailed this article to my mom and friends and wrote: "questo lo facciamo noi!" (that's what we do!).
