Cardiac Rhythm Disease Management (CRDM) Business Overview
Pioneers in cardiac rhythm technology
In 1957, Medtronic developed the first wearable external cardiac pacemaker, and followed up with the first reliable, long-term implantable pacemaker in 1960.
Today, 50 years later, Medtronic's Cardiac Rhythm Disease Management (CRDM) division remains a global leader in cardiac rhythm technology. From pacemakers to diagnostics, CRDM’s wide range of products help millions of people with cardiac rhythm diseases and disorders to live longer, better lives.
Pacing Systems
Medtronic, a world leader in pacing technology, designs and manufactures pacemakers to treat patients with bradycardia, an irregularly slow heartbeat.
Defibrillation Systems
Medtronic also produces implantable defibrillators (ICDs) to treat patients with tachyarrhythmia, an irregularly fast heartbeat.
Diagnostics & Monitoring
Medtronic is also leading in the field of implantable cardiac monitors, designed to help discover cardiac arrhythmias - syncope (transient loss of consciousness or unexplained episodes of fainting) or atrial fibrillation - in an early stage and/or to monitor the patient's heart rate for a longer period. Medtronic also offers an advanced system - CareLink Network - for remotely monitoring pacemakers, ICDs and implantable heart monitors. Both physicians and patients benefit from this system.
Electrophysiology Systems
A leading provider of electrophysiology products used for mapping and ablation.
Atrial Therapy
Atrial Therapy offers treatment of atrial arrhythmias (rapid, uncontrolled heartbeats in the upper chambers) with ventricular tachycardia.
Heart Failure
Heart failure is the inability of the heart to maintain its workload of pumping blood throughout the body, and it accounts for between 5 to 10 percent of all hospital admissions. Medtronic is dedicated to researching the most effective techniques to diagnose and treat patients at risk for heart failure.
